Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following a fire that destroyed a Port Melbourne building site and caused significant damage to surrounding buildings, Victoria Police say.

Police and emergency services responded to reports of the fire on Princes Street about 2.40am on Friday 24 November.

The fire caused damage to multiple surrounding properties, including a child care centre which is now planned for demolition.

No one was injured as a result of the blaze.

Investigators are treating the fire as suspicious and are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
