Witnesses sought after man shot in thigh in Newcastle

Detectives are waiting to speak with a man who is being treated in John Hunter Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound this morning, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to a unit block in Bururda Street, Mayfield West, shortly before 5.30am (Tuesday 1 May 2018), responding to reports of a gunshot.

They arrived and found a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his left thigh.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District have established a crime scene and conducted a canvass of the surrounding area.

They are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call Newcastle Police or Crime Stoppers.
