Woman and child injured in domestic stabbing; man arrested - North Parramatta

A man has been arrested following a stabbing that hospitalised a woman and child in Sydney's west overnight.

About 12.10am (Saturday 25 April 2020), emergency services were called to a unit on Belmore Street near Buller Street, North Parramatta, after reports of a domestic-related incident.

Police have been told a 27-year-old woman and six-year-old child sustained stab wounds inside the unit, before a man fled the scene on foot.

The woman and boy were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to hospital, both in a stable condition.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist forensic police.

A search of the surrounding area was conducted, with assistance from PolAir and the Dog Unit, and about 2am, a 31-year-old man was arrested after he presented to Parramatta Police Station.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has commenced and inquiries continue.
