Woman and two police officers assaulted, man charged, NSW

A man will face court today over an alleged assault of a woman and two police officers in Sydney’s south yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 4.50pm (Friday 27 April 2018), a 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman attended a home on Endeavour Place at Riverwood, to speak with a 32-year-old woman and an altercation ensued.

The pair left the location and the younger woman went to a home on Parry Avenue at Narwee.

Police have been told the pair returned to the home and the woman contacted police.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command attended and observed a 37-year-old man holding an axe-like weapon, in the driveway.

As officers approached the man, he allegedly became aggressive and police drew their firearms. The man dropped the axe and ran from the location and a foot pursuit commenced.

After a struggle between the man and police, during which two police officers were punched several times, the man was arrested.

He was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, assault police x2 and resist arrest x2.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 28 April 2018).

The Constable received treatment for bruising and cuts to the face and was taken to St George Hospital, but later released.

The probationary Constable has a suspected fractured finger and was also treated for bruising and cuts to the face.

The couple and younger woman are known to each other.
