Woman assaulted during robbery in Belmore

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a robbery in Belmore overnight, NSW Police say.

About 8pm today, a 19-year-old woman got off a train at Belmore Railway Station and was walking along the footpath on Burwood Road.

The woman was approached by two men described African in appearance with slim builds and aged in their mid teens.

One of the boys attempted to grab the woman’s bag from her shoulder but she managed to fight back.

As she held onto her bag she was pushed to the ground and dragged along the footpath.

A passing motorist saw what was happening and stopped to assist the woman. As he approached he called upon the two boys to stop. One of the pair grabbed the woman’s iphone before running from the scene heading south on Burwood Road.

Police were called to the location and established a crime scene.

The woman suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident but didn’t required medical treatment.

Police from Campsie are conducting a full investigation and would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has information that may assist, to contact investigators at Campsie Local Area Command.
