Woman assisting police after incident at Southport

A 17-year-old woman is assisting police with their enquiries following an incident at a house at Cotlew Street at Southport overnight, Queensland Police say.

Around 9.30pm last night an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act was declared after police received a report of a 61-year-old woman being held inside the house by another woman armed with a knife.

Police attempted to negotiate with the woman throughout the night while closely monitoring the situation.

Around 4am specialist police entered the house and detained the woman without incident.

The 61-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

The emergency situation was revoked around 4.50am.

Investigations are continuing.
