Woman charged after child dies in Bilpin crash

A woman has been charged with driving and drug offences, after a child died in a single-vehicle crash in Bilpin two weeks ag, NSW Police sayo

About 3.45am (27 November 2016), emergency services were called to Bells Line of Road at Bilpin, after an eastbound Commodore sedan left Bells Line of Road and struck a tree, trapping the three occupants.

Police from Hawkesbury Local Area Command called SES and RFS volunteers to the scene to assist in releasing the injured; before they were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.

An 11-year-old boy was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with multiple injuries, where he later died.

The driver, a 45-year-old woman, and her front-seat passenger, a 31-year-old man, were taken to Westmead Hospital, with multiple injuries. They have since been released.

Following the crash, officers seized drugs believed to be ‘ice’ and cannabis from the car.

The driver attended Parramatta Police Station yesterday, where she was charged with 11 drug and driving offences including; negligent drive occasioning death, possess prohibited drug and self administer prohibited drug.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Windsor Local Court on Thursday 19 January 2016.

Further charges may be laid, pending results of blood samples taken from the driver.
