Woman charged after man set alight in Newcastle

A woman has been charged following a domestic incident in Newcastle yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 8.40am yesterday, a 28-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, became involved in an altercation at a home on Triumph Way, Hamilton South.

During the argument, the woman allegedly swung a jerry can at the man, spilling fuel on him.

The woman sparked a lighter setting the man and herself alight.

The man ran to a neighbouring home and sought assistance.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital and transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The woman was arrested and taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Upon her being discharged, the woman was taken to Newcastle Police Station where she was charged with burn/maim by using corrosive fluid.

She was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 25 May 2017.

The man and the woman are known to each other.
