Woman charged following stabbing in West Wallsend

Police have charged a woman following an alleged stabbing in West Wallsend overnight, NSW Police say.

About 9.00pm today, a 47-year-old woman suffered a stab wound to her forearm, following a verbal altercation on Renwick Street, Wallsend.

Police and NSW Ambulance Paramedics attended and the woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command established a crime scene and arrested a 31-year-old woman at the home.

The woman was taken to Belmont Police Station where she was charged with reckless wounding.

She was refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Monday 10 October 2016.
