Woman charged over $2.1 million fraud scheme in Armidale

A woman has been charged following investigations into an alleged large-scale financial fraud scheme in the state’s northern tablelands, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Amaranthus - a joint New England Police District and State Crime Command Financial Crimes Squad investigation – was commenced in February 2018 to investigate numerous alleged fraud offences involving a local Armidale company.

Police will allege between 2014 and 2018, an officer of the company operated an investment scam involving the sale of company shares.

To date, investigators have identified 22 victims who have been allegedly defrauded more than $2.1 million.

Yesterday (Monday 30 July 2018), investigators attended an address in Armidale and arrested a 57-year-old woman.

She was taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with 22 counts of obtain benefit by deception.

The woman was refused bail and appeared before Armidale Local Court yesterday (Monday 30 July 2018) and was remanded to re-appear at the same court on Tuesday 25 September 2018.

Investigations are continuing.
