Woman charged over child abduction in Sutherland

A woman will appear in court tomorrow charged over the alleged abduction of a three-year-old boy at Sutherland earlier today.

Police from Sutherland Local Area Command were speaking with a man over an unrelated incident in Flora Street about 12.40pm Thursday, when they became suspicious of a woman walking past with a barefoot child.

They stopped the woman and were questioning her, when a 33-year-old man ran down Flora Street searching for his son, who had escaped from their flat minutes earlier.

The 34-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where she was charged with take/detain child with intent to remove from parental control.

She was refused bail and will appear in Sutherland Local Court Friday.

The boy was upset but not injured in the incident.
