Woman charged over double fatal crash, NSW

A woman will face court in September after she was charged over a double fatal crash on the Hume Highway at Pheasants Nest, south of Sydney earlier this year, NSW Police say.

Just before 8am (7 March 2017), emergency services responded to reports of a head-on crash in the southbound lanes of the Hume Highway, about 1km south of Picton Road.

A 49-year-old woman driving a Mazda 4WD died at the scene. A seven-year-old boy and a seven year-old girl also in the Mazda were trapped for a short time.

The seven-year-old boy died on arrival at Liverpool Hospital while the seven-year-old girl was treated for serious injuries including a broken pelvis at Westmead Children’s Hospital.

A 49-year-old woman, driving a Holden Astra, was trapped for some time before she was released and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit continued with their inquiries into the incident.

today investigators issued a court attendance notice to a 49-year-old woman for dangerous driving occasioning death (x2), dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning death.

The woman is expected to appear at Picton Local Court on Tuesday 5 September 2017.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
