Woman charged over fraudulent business scams, NSW

A woman has been charged with fraud following an investigation into fraudulent investment schemes, NSW Police say.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Fraud and Cybercrime Squad established Strike Force Summercloud to investigate a number of fraudulent investment schemes.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home on View Street, Woollahra, about 8am yesterday.

Investigators seized computers, electronic storage devices, and documentation, which examined by specialist forensic accountants.

A 48-year-old woman was arrested at the location and taken to Waverly Police Station, where she was charged with 35 counts of fraud.

Police will allege in court the woman was involved in establishing fraudulent business ventures and defrauded at least 35 people to a total of more than $5.5 million.

The woman was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Waverly Local Court on Tuesday 5 September 2017.

Investigations under Strike Force Summercloud are continuing and further arrests are expected.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to fraudulent business schemes or other scams to call Crime Stoppers.
