A woman has been charged following an investigation into a fatal crash which occurred more than a year ago in Sydney's west.
Emergency services were called to Christie Road, St Marys, about 3.20am on Friday 26 April 2024, after a Hyundai Getz hit a parked truck and trailer.
The driver of the car – a 38-year-old woman – and her back-seat passenger – a five-year-old boy – were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in critical conditions.
The five-year-old boy died at the Childrens Hospital in Westmead later that night.
A crime scene was established by officers attached Nepean Police Area Command and forensically examined by specialist officers attached to the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
Police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and a report was prepared for the information of the Coroner.
Following inquiries, on Friday 6 December 2024 the 38-year-old woman was charged with:
- Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous
- Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive under influence
- Negligent driving occasioning death
- Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
She appeared before Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 15 January 2026 and the matter remains before the courts.
Following further inquiries, yesterday (Thursday 22 January 2026), the woman was charged with manslaughter (DV).
She is due to appear before Penrith Local Court today (Friday 23 January 2026).
