Woman dies in crash at Wollongong

A woman has died after being hit by a bus in the state's Illawarra region.

About 10am today (Monday 27 June 2022), emergency services were called to Crown Street, near the intersection of Corrimal Street, Wollongong, after reports of a pedestrian hit by a bus.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, who treated the woman at the scene.

She was taken to Wollongong Hospital however died a short time later.

The woman is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged 68.

The bus driver was uninjured and taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.

Crown Street is closed, between Corrimal Street and Harbour Street. Other local diversions are in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
