Woman dies in hospital following Clayton South crash

A woman has died following a collision in Clayton South earlier today (11 September), Victoria Police say.

It is believed a taxi was stopped in the left north-bound lane of Clayton Road near the intersection of Kallay Street, picking up two elderly passengers about 10.45am.

The taxi performed a u-turn into the path of a truck who was also travelling north, in the right lane.

The truck has collided with the front driver’s-side door of the taxi.

One of the passengers, an 81-year-old woman from Clayton South suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital.

The other passenger, an 85-year-old man, also from Clayton South suffered non-life threatening injuries to his chest and back injuries.

The 30-year-old taxi driver, a Clayton South man, sustained non-life threatening injuries to his shoulder and neck.

He is assisting police with their enquiries.

The driver and sole occupant of the truck, a 31-year-old from Pakenham, was not injured.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and the investigation is ongoing.
