Woman drowns near Port Macquarie, NSW

Investigations are continuing after a woman drowned on the state’s Mid North Coast yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just before 5pm (Wednesday 11 April 2018), emergency services were called to Mill Street, Laurieton, about 40km south of Port Macquarie, after a woman was pulled from the water.

Police and ambulance paramedics attended, however; the woman could not be revived and died at the scene.

Initial inquiries indicate the 48-year-old woman jumped in the Camden Haven River after an argument with a man.

A 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station. He was later released pending further inquiries.

A report will now be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
