Woman injured after she was struck by car in Forster

Police have commenced an investigation after a woman was struck by the vehicle attempting to pick her up at Forster earlier today, NSW Police say.

About 11.55am today, a 77-year-old man was driving a Ford Falcon sedan in a car park off Little Street.

It appears as the driver attempted to collect his 81-year-old wife the vehicle accelerated, skidding on the gravel surface of the car park.

The Ford struck the woman and carried her for several metres until it slowed and she fell onto a steel concrete drain.

The driver immediately went to the assistance of the pedestrian.

After emergency services were contacted, the woman was treated at the scene and conveyed to John Hunter Hospital, with serious head and arm injuries.

Police spoke with a number of independent witnesses at the scene whilst the driver was taken for mandatory blood and urine tests.

The vehicle has been seized for a mechanical inspection but the driver is yet to be interviewed.

Officers from the Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit continue with their inquiries into the cause of the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
