Woman injured by horse at Clermont

A man is assisting police after a woman was injured in Clermont this afternoon.

Shortly after 3.30pm, a man rode a horse into the Clermont showground and rode around the entertainment ring.

Investigations to date have revealed that as the man was attempting to exit the ring, a woman and a group of others attempted to close a gate which the horse has struck.

The gate then struck a 62-year-old New South Wales woman and the rider then rode into bushland at the back of the showgrounds.

The 62-year-old woman was taken to the Clermont Hospital for treatment of bruising and abrasions and her injures are believed to be non-life-threatening.

A man was taken into custody by police just after 4pm and he is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Police will remain in the area overnight.
