Cricket Victoria's first-ever Female Only Advanced Coaching Course has laid the foundations for the next generation of female cricket coaches across the state.
Held at the CitiPower Centre, the course welcomed 24 participants, including Afghanistan Women's team members Nahida Sapan and Shabnam Ahsan, who recently played in an exhibition match against the Cricket Without Borders XI on Junction Oval.
"We're really happy to have taken part in the Female Only Advanced Coaching Course," said Nahida and Shabnam.
"It was a great learning experience that helped us grow our coaching skills and connect with other women in cricket."
The course, which was supported by Cricket Australia, CommBank's Growing Cricket for Girls Fund and the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA), focused on both technical coaching skills and creating a positive, engaging learning environment to ensure young players feel supported, motivated and encouraged to develop their abilities.
"As the first -of many Female Only Advanced Coaching Courses, we hope to generate future growth in female cricket across Victoria," said Cricket Victoria Community Coach Development Specialist Chris Harris.
"This is a step forward in encouraging female coaches to create quality cricket learning environments for their teams, where players of all abilities can have fun and learn the skills of the game."
"We would like to thank the support of Cricket Australia and the ACA, who helped connect us with outstanding female coach development role models in Cathryn Fitzpatrick, Megan Pauwels, and Kelly Applebee."
