Network congestion will be minimised during an emergency thanks to capacity enhancement work at a NSW Government radio communications site at Cudmirrah Trig Station.

Kylie De Courteney Managing Director NSW Telco Authority said the NSW Telco Authority carried out the enhancements at Cudmirrah in time for Summer as it will play a vital role in continued community safety.

"By expanding network capacity at existing towers, the NSW Telco Authority is delivering additional emergency service radio communications bandwidth," Ms De Courteney said.

"During an emergency every second counts. The enhancements will minimise network congestion during an emergency."

Eleven government radio sites across the state are being upgraded.

The NSW Government is investing $320 million to expand the government radio network from 190 to around 700 sites under the Critical Communications Enhancement Program.

The program represents the biggest investment in critical communications infrastructure by the NSW Government in two decades and will boost the network's coverage from 35 per cent of the state to more than 80 per cent.
