Working together to prepare roads for harvest season

With the harvest season approaching, Campaspe Shire Council is calling upon larger agricultural producers to assist council in determining high usage gravel roads ahead of time.

Mayor Cr Adrian Weston said it is important we ensure that high use gravel and earth roads used by our rural producers during harvest, can cater for the heavy and high volumes of traffic expected.

"We are asking our large scale broad-acre producers, carting 25 tonnes or more per load, what gravel or earth roads they are planning to use, how many truck movements and tonnes, and roughly at what time periods," Cr Weston said.

Although council has a general understanding of road usage from previous years, this can change from year to year. Information obtained will assist council staff in planning grading works for the coming months, to ensure specific roads are targeted and ready for heavy use.

"Working in consultation with the community will go long way in ensuring key roads are targeted and ready for the harvest season ahead, " Cr Weston said.

Information will be collected through feedback forms and will be collated and assessed for the works program.
