World-Class Care And First-Class Hospitals For All Victorians

  • Minister for Health

Gippsland patients and their families will be able to access the very best treatment and care in a world-class hospital thanks to the Andrews Labor Government's massive expansion of Latrobe Regional Hospital.

The Victorian Budget 2019/20 will ensure the landmark project can begin, with $7 million provided for planning - an important first step towards making the project a reality.

The Latrobe Regional Hospital's theatre complex will be expanded to include three new operating theatres and an additional 14 new medical and surgical beds for recovery, making sure 6,200 additional elective surgeries can be completed each year, cutting waiting times.

Mums and their babies will get the very best care, thanks to an expansion of the maternity unit. Two new birthing suites, six new maternity beds and six special care nursery cots are part of the Labor Government's upgrade.

Locals will have peace of mind knowing that if they're in an emergency, help will be just around the corner, thanks to six new intensive care unit beds and an additional emergency department bay.

There will also be 227 new car parking spaces, making it easier for family and friends to visit a loved one in hospital. The project will create 600 construction jobs. Works will be complete by 2023.

It's just one of the ways the Labor Government is making sure Gippsland families have healthcare they can count on, when they need it most. We're also funding 500,000 specialist appointments in regional Victoria, and giving a $100 million boost to the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

As stated by Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos

"When someone gets sick or something's not quite right, Gippsland families deserve the very best care in a world-class hospital - and that's exactly what we're delivering."

"This massive upgrade of Latrobe Regional Hospital will mean patients can get the first-class treatment they need to get back to full health, and nurses and doctors will have a hospital that backs them to do what they do best."

As noted by Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing

"This is a big win for Latrobe Valley patients. We said we'd get on and completely upgrade Latrobe Regional Hospital, and we're delivering on our promise."
