The Y NSW and the City of Ryde will celebrate 15 years of community sport, connection and participation at the Ryde Community Sports Centre on August 30 from 1pm to 5.15pm, marking a significant milestone for one of the region's most popular sporting hubs.
Since opening in 2011, Ryde Community Sports Centre has welcomed thousands of players, officials, volunteers, and families through its doors, becoming a vibrant community destination where people of all ages can stay active, build friendships, and develop a lifelong love of sport.
"I congratulate the Ryde Community Sports Centre on 15 fantastic years of helping our community stay fit, active, and connected," said Mayor of the City of Ryde Trenton Brown.
"This is a wonderful facility that caters to both indoor and outdoor sports and is used year-round by athletes of all ages and skills for a variety of different competitions. I look forward to it playing a significant role in the City of Ryde's sporting life for generations to come."
Operated by the Y NSW in partnership with the City of Ryde, the centre is home to a wide range of sports including basketball, futsal, indoor netball, pickleball and outdoor soccer, while also providing opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop skills and connect with their community.
As a proud not-for-profit organisation, the Y NSW has been supporting communities across Sydney and the state for generations. Its enduring commitment to the local community is reflected in the opening of the Y Bennelong this year, creating even more opportunities for local people to participate, connect and thrive.
Federal Member for Bennelong Jerome Laxale said the Y Ryde Community Sports Centre had become a fixture in the lives of local families.
"Fifteen years on, this centre is still doing exactly what it was built to do, getting people active, giving kids somewhere to belong, and bringing this community together," he said.
"I've seen firsthand how much this place means to families in Ryde and I want to thank everyone who has worked behind the scenes to keep it running for a decade and a half."
Member for Ryde Jordan Lane described the Y Ryde Community Sport Centre as a local institution.
"For 15 years, the Y has brought so much joy to Ryde," he said.
"As our community continues to grow, the special place the Y already holds in Ryde's heart will only become more pronounced."
To mark the milestone, the community is invited to attend a special birthday celebration featuring free activities and family-friendly entertainment. There will be opportunities to try pickleball, netball, basketball and PrYme Movers, as well as the chance to participate in Sydney FC Learn to Play soccer clinics. Attendees will also enjoy birthday cake and hear from special guests.
The Y NSW's COO George Perry said the celebrations will recognise the many volunteers, coaches, officials, participants and staff who have helped shape the centre over the past 15 years.
"This milestone reflects 15 years of creating opportunities for people in Ryde to feel safe, connect with their community, and thrive through sport and physical activity," he said.
"We are proud to continue supporting the Ryde community and helping people build healthier, more connected lives."
Centre Manager of Ryde Community Sports Centre Emily Donkin said generations of local families have created lasting memories at the venue as she looks forward to welcoming more.
"We're incredibly proud of the role the centre has played in bringing our community together and creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport," she said.
As part of the Y NSW, the centre contributes to the organisation's vision that all children and young people in NSW are positively impacted and living inspired lives due to our programs.
