On Thursday 13 August 2026, the Department for Correctional Services (DCS) and the South Australia Police (SAPOL) conducted a coordinated search operation at Yatala Labour Prison as part of their ongoing partnership to maintain the safety, security and integrity of correctional facilities.
During the operation, a quantity of suspected drugs was located and seized. The substances will be subject to forensic examination, with investigations continuing.
The operation reflects the strong partnership between DCS and SAPOL, with both agencies working collaboratively to address risks associated with contraband and enhance the safety of prisoners, staff and visitors.
Officer in Charge of SAPOL's Offender Management Section, Detective Chief Inspector Naomi Oberscheidt, said the result highlighted the value of a coordinated approach.
"This operation demonstrates the strength of the partnership between SAPOL and DCS. By working together, we can effectively detect and disrupt contraband, support a safer correctional environment, and hold offenders accountable."
SAPOL will continue to work closely with DCS to detect, disrupt and prevent the introduction of contraband into correctional facilities and to hold those responsible accountable.
