Yet another taskforce…

Tasmanian Labor
  • Taskforce a delaying tactic by government
  • Raises more
  • Shane questions than it answers
  • Industry needs certainty, not a think tank
  • The state government has confirmed today that Tasmania will not see new Spirit of Tasmania ships until 2028.

Shadow Minister for Infrastructure Shane Broad said establishment of a taskforce for getting the new ships is a delaying tactic that helps nobody.

"This is a navel gazing exercise that allows the government to kick any real decision down the road.

"Primary producers, the tourism industry and freight companies need certainty, not a think tank.

"Even the composition of the taskforce raises more questions than it answers - why is the Federal Finance Department suddenly involved?"

"Government needs to be clear on what its plans are? How many Tasmanian jobs are they promising to create? Who is actually going to build the vessels?

"Instead government has set up yet another taskforce to provide yet another report on yet another infrastructure project going nowhere."

    Shane Broad

    Shadow Minister for Infrastructure
