Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate Yong Choy Chee, Victoria Police say.
The 30-year-old Malaysian National is wanted for questioning following an incident in a Springvale boarding house where another man sustained life threatening stab wounds on 11 November.
The 29-year-old victim remains in hospital in an induced coma.
Investigators believe that Chee may be residing in boarding-house accommodation and working as a cash-in-hand plasterer.
Chee is described as 174cm tall with a medium to chubby build and short black hair.
Investigators have released an image of Chee in the hope someone may have information on his current whereabouts.
