Police have arrested a man for theft and providing false details after he was found by a police dog in the early hours of this morning in the city, according to SA Police.

Just before 3am, police spoke to a man at the corner of Gouger Street and Morphett Street after he was seen riding through the CBD on a bike.

While speaking to the man and trying to confirm his identity, he took off on the bike along Gouger Street and disappeared down a side street.

Police patrols set up cordons around the area and called in a police dog patrol, who commenced a search.

A short time later police dog Kraze (who only recently graduated from training) located the man hiding behind an industrial rubbish bin off Gouger Street.

The 23-year-old man from Wingfield was arrested and charged with stating a false name, hindering police, an outstanding warrant and theft of the bike he was riding, after it was revealed it had been stolen from the Royal Adelaide Hospital in November last year.

The man was refused police bailed and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.
