You know drill

Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance to help to identify a man following a burglary and theft in Lilydale earlier this month.

Investigators have been told a man attended a hardware store on Main Street about 5pm on Monday 20 May.

Once inside the premises he selected a number of power tools and other items before placing them in a basket.

The man then took the basket to an outdoor area, hid the items and then left the store.

It is believed that the same man returned to the store about 3am on 21 May in a white ute.

He forced the rear gate, entered the property and collected the secreted items before returning to his vehicle and driving off.

The offender is perceived to be Caucasian, 35-40 years old with a medium build, balding and with a soul patch.

Detectives have released an image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information or who may recognise the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
