Young Victorians urged to take a proactive approach to their mental health & seek support during lockdown
Mental health experts are calling on young Victorians to be proactive about their mental health and to seek support if they need it during the current COVID-19 lockdown.
Ashley de Silva, CEO of ReachOut, said that lockdowns could impact the mental health of young people in Victoria.
"Being in lockdown once again presents a range of challenges for young people in Victoria. We know that since the beginning of 2020, COVID-19 restrictions have had a disproportionate impact on the lives of young people, in particular when it comes to the stress of uncertainty, job losses and concern about the future.
"We know many young people in Victoria are understandably feeling worried, stressed and frustrated right now.
"In 2020, young people demonstrated incredible resilience and determination despite the challenges. We are calling on young people in Victoria to reflect on the things that helped them through previous lockdowns. Taking a proactive approach to looking after your mental health can have a huge impact on how you feel during and also after lockdown.
"It's okay to not feel okay. Support is available right now. ReachOut.com is available for free 24/7 for young people where they can get tips, hear stories and join peer support forums."
