Youth Advisory Group Recognised: Bayside

Members of Bayside Council's Youth Advisory Group (YAG) were recognised for their service over the past two years at the Council Meeting on Wednesday 27 August with a Certificate of Appreciation from Council.

Aldardelger, Daniel, Darcy, Dylan, Emily, Emma, Eyad, Fabian, Frank, Isabella, Jade, Joanna, Olivia and Rocio were all recognised for their contributions.

YAG members have played a key role in representing young people. Their advocacy has influenced decisions on local youth spaces, recreation, and service delivery, while also advising on state policies regarding mental health, social cohesion, and youth engagement.

The YAG advocates for young people's needs with members working alongside Council to provide advice on youth programs, community projects, and key initiatives that impact young people across Bayside.

Over the past two years, the YAG has:

  • Led and facilitated Youth Week events, creating opportunities for young people to engage and celebrate their community.
  • Contributed to local projects, including consultations on recreational spaces and parks.
  • Advocated on a state level, participating in government consultations on issues such as mental health, youth engagement, and social cohesion.
  • Helped shape youth programs, including workshops in STEM, creative arts and including break out spaces for HSC students during outreach programs.
  • Contributed to the development of Council's Youth Strategy

Mayor Edward McDougall said

"Our Youth Advisory Group represents the young people of Bayside and plays a key role in advocating for young people's needs by actively participating in decisions that impact youth living in Bayside.

"The Group also played a large role in the development of our Youth Strategy, and I would like to commend them for their contribution," Mayor Edward McDougall said.

"On behalf of Council, I would like to thank each member for their passion, leadership, and voice in representing their peers in their community."
