Youth charged over Latrobe crash, TAS

Police have charged a 17 year old male youth with a number of traffic related charges which resulted from a crash on the Bass Highway at Latrobe on 20 May 2018, Tasmania Police say.

The youth, who was 16 years old at the time, will be summonsed to appear at the Burnie Magistrates Court to answer charges of dangerous driving, driving with a prescribed illicit drug in his blood, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, stealing and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

It is alleged that the youth drove at an excessive speed from Launceston to Latrobe with three female passengers before crashing in an area of roadworks at Speedway Drive.

Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in this matter and continue to encourage motorists to report all instances of dangerous and erratic driving.
