Youths arrested over stolen car pursuit, SA

Two youths were arrested after a pursuit with a stolen vehicle in the north of the State last week, according to SA Police.

A stolen Mazda sedan was spotted by police on the Augusta Highway, Port Augusta about 4.30pm on Friday 13 January. The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons and the car travelled towards Port Pirie at high speed.

The car and car keys had been stolen during a break-in at a Paradise home the previous night.

Port Pirie Police received reports that the stolen car had crashed into a fence at Port Germein about 5pm, and two youths were seen running from the vehicle.

Patrols quickly set up cordons and commenced a search of the area. They were called to a nearby property after the youths allegedly attempted to steal another vehicle and were arrested.

A 14-year-old boy from Paralowie was charged with illegal use, aggravated engage in a police pursuit, drive unlicensed, illegal interference, unlawful possession and state false personal details.

A 15-year-old boy from Findon was charged with illegal use and unlawful possession.

They were both refused police bail and appeared in the Port Pirie Youth Court on Monday. They have since been bailed by the court to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on 23 February.
