Youths charged as investigations continue into suspicious fires, NSW

Two youths have been charged after an investigation into suspicious fires in Tamworth, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Laden was established by officers from Oxley Police District with the assistance of State Crime Commands Arson Squad police, to investigation suspicious fires across Tamworth in the past six months.

Since October 2017, emergency services have attended more than 50 car, grass and structural fires.

Just after 4pm on Thursday 14 June 2018, emergency services were called to two fires at Locks Lane, Tamworth and Bicentennial Park.

Witnesses told police two people were seen leaving the area.

A short time later, two boys, aged 17 and 11, were identified and further investigations took place.

Shortly before 7.30pm (Friday 15 June 2018) police arrested the two boys at an address in Oxley Vale. They were taken to Tamworth Police Station where they were charged with two counts of cause or set fire to the property of another.

The pair were granted strict conditional bail to appear before a Children’s Court on Tuesday 17 July 2018.
