The West Coast Council Owned and Operated gyms have been closed since the restrictions were put into place by the State Government due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, West Coast Council, thanks to the generous support of Bluestone Mines Tasmania Joint Venture Pty Ltd. (BMTJV) will be opening the Zeehan Gym & Squash Courts 6 days a week Monday to Saturday. The gym will be open to all current gym members, but there will be some changes to ensure we remain COVID-19 safe. The support from BMTJV means Council can employ a gym assistant to staff the gym while it is open.
General Manager from BMTJV Mark Recklies said,
“Bluestone Mines Tasmania Joint Venture Pty Ltd (BMTJV) is pleased to be working in partnership with the West Coast Council to assist in the re-opening of the Zeehan Gym and Squash Courts.
BMTJV supports and encourages healthy lifestyle choices and recognises the value the Zeehan Gym has within our community. We encourage both BMTJV personnel and members of the community to take advantage of the re-opening of the gym and to be aware of, and comply with, the necessary conditions of use that have been put in place to protect our community against COVID-19.”
West Coast Council’s Mayor Phil Vickers said,
“It is great to see local business supporting the community in this way to open a facility in what are difficult times for all of us.”
Members are encouraged to get in, train, get out. There is also an agreement form that they will need to read and sign and return to Council before their memberships are reinstated. Numbers will be capped at 12 in the Gym at any one time and there will be four 50-minute sessions each day excluding Wednesdays.
What the re-opening will look like:

First Session: 4:00pm – 4:50pm
Second Session: 5:00pm – 5:50pm
Third Session: 6:00pm – 6:50pm
