1.6kg cannabis seized, man charged in Wilcannia

A man is due in court today charged after more than 1.6kg of cannabis was seized when a car was stopped for a random breath test near Wilcannia yesterday, NSW Police say.

It was about 2am yesterday, that police attached to Barrier Local Area Command stopped the Holden sedan as it was being driven east along the Barrier Highway, 25km east of Wilcannia.

The driver, a 32-year-old man from South Australia, returned a negative roadside breath test; however, a check of his licence revealed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Police will allege when the sedan was searched, more than 1.6kg of cannabis was found in the boot.

The man was arrested and taken to Wilcannia Police Station where he was charged with supply an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug, as well as the outstanding warrant (drive while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs).

The man has been refused bail and is due to appear in Broken Hill Local Court later today.
