The search is on for innovative ideas to help make Queensland's thriving communities more age-friendly.
Applications are now open for the third round of the Palaszczuk Government's Advancing Queensland: Age-friendly community grants program, providing grant funding of up to $100,000 for projects to help Queensland communities be more inclusive of seniors.
Minister for Seniors Coralee O'Rourke today (30 April) opened the $1 million grant funding round, highlighting the success of projects funded under previous rounds.
"Queensland's population is ageing and we know that these projects have positive outcomes for our seniors, improving their health and wellbeing, standard of living and longevity," Mrs O'Rourke said.
"Since these grants were first rolled out in 2017, 29 organisations and community groups have received funding for their innovative age-friendly projects.
"These projects have ranged from age-friendly fitness areas on Magnetic Island and Atherton to a seniors driving program on the Fraser Coast and the development of an app for carers called The Care Journal.
"We've had plenty of positive feedback from these projects, which have helped make their communities more inclusive of Queensland seniors.
The focus of this latest grants round is projects aimed at improving social participation and communication and information for Queensland seniors.
Mrs O'Rourke encouraged community groups, not-for-profits and local councils to apply for the grants.
"This is a great opportunity to get seniors-focused community projects involving partnerships between local government, community and other organisations off the ground," she said.
"These grants are another example of the Palaszczuk Government's commitment to creating age-friendly communities, where Queenslanders, regardless of their age, can participate and be included, be resilient and enjoy social and economic wellbeing."
Applications for the Advancing Queensland: Age-friendly community grants close 5pm, 10 June.
Successful applicants will be announced during Queensland Seniors Week (17 – 25 August).
