10 year anniversary of disappearance of Boronia girl Bung Siriboon

It's a photograph that many Victorians recognise - a smiling 13-year-old girl dressed in her school uniform, her high school years still ahead of her.

At the time, her family would have no way of knowing it would be the photo that would be widely circulated as part of the many appeals for information about her disappearance.

Victoria Police is again releasing that photograph today to mark the 10-year anniversary of the disappearance of Boronia teen Siriyakorn 'Bung' Siriboon.

Despite a number of public appeals over the past decade, the case remains unsolved.

Bung left her home in Elsie Street, Boronia around 8.30am on Thursday 2 June, 2011.

She was last seen by a neighbour just after 8.30am in Elsie Street, walking towards Albert Avenue.

Bung did not arrive at school that day and has not been seen or heard from since.

Detectives have previously released information on two other possible sightings that day, however they were subsequently ruled out.

In 2016 police released information about a vehicle similar to a white Kingswood station wagon that was seen in Rowville on the morning of Bung's disappearance, that may have had a young female passenger on board.

However they have never been able to establish if this was Bung or if it had any connection to her disappearance.

At the time of her disappearance Bung was wearing her blue and white school uniform and carrying a school backpack.

This backpack has never been recovered by police.

Bung is described as being of Thai origin, approximately 154cm tall, thin build with long dark hair and brown eyes.

A reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the person or persons responsible for Bung's disappearance was announced in February 2014.

The Department of Public Prosecutions will also consider granting indemnification from prosecution to any person who provides information as to the identity of the principal offender or offenders.

Police have continued to receive a significant number of calls and information from the public over the past 10 years in relation to this case.

Anyone with fresh information about the disappearance of Bung Siriboon is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au

Quotes attributable to Detective Leading Senior Constable Justin Tippett:

"On today's anniversary, our thoughts are with Bung's family especially her mother Nid, father Fred and sister.

"Ten years is a long time to go without answers and I'm sure the loss of Bung feels as raw today as it did in 2011.

"Despite a significant and thorough investigation, we've unfortunately not been able to solve this case and either provide Bung's family with answers or hold the offender to account.

"Thousands of pieces of information have been sifted through during this time and even now, every week investigators continue to receive calls or emails about Bung's disappearance.

"We continue to encourage people to come forward with new information that may assist police and can ensure the community that all credible information will be thoroughly assessed.

"As history has shown, often those involved in a crime of this nature are unable to keep it secret so we are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have specific knowledge of the person involved.

"We have never given up hope that one day we will be able to find out exactly what happened to Bung that day."
