More than 112,000 kilograms of litter has been removed from the Georges River waterways and foreshores. In the 2025/26 financial year, Georges Riverkeeper cleared litter from across the catchment with its ongoing clean-up program.
Working with NSW Corrective Services teams, Georges Riverkeeper completed 3,106 site visits, collecting:

86,760 kilograms of general litter.

23,644 kilograms of bulky waste.
Community volunteers and Georges Riverkeeper also removed more than 2,000 kilograms of litter through clean-up events.
Litter threatens wildlife, pollutes waterways and costs communities millions of dollars each year to manage. By properly disposing of rubbish and preventing litter from entering stormwater drains, everyone can help protect our local waterways. This ensures the local government area's three swim sites remain clean, safe and enjoyable for the whole community.
Georges River Council's Mayor Elise Borg said the result showed the value of strong partnerships and community action.
