Police have charged 12 people following a crackdown on heavy vehicles during a five-day police operation in the state's west last week.
Operation Convoy was launched by officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command to prevent serious traffic crashes involving heavy vehicles on major roads of NSW.
As a part of investigation, on Monday 11 August 2025, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Macquarie Sector launched a high-visibility operation under Operation Convoy on the main roads of Parkes, Forbes, Condobolin and Tullamore and surrounding areas.
The operation ran from 6am on Monday 11 August 2025 to 4pm on Friday 15 August 2025 with officers patrolling about 10,241km across the state's west.
During the operation police conducted 489 heavy vehicles roadside breath tests, 332 drug tests, and issued 38 heavy vehicle infringement notices, detected 38 speed offences, and charged 12 people with 18 counts of offences.
Incidents of note include:
- About 3.40pm on Tuesday 12 August 2025, police stopped a van on Newell Highway, Daroobalgie, about 18km north of Forbes, as checks alleged the registration was expired. The driver – a 46-year-old man – was subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive reading. An oral fluid sample was obtained for further analysis at the scene, and he was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.
- About 2.10pm on Tuesday 12 August 2025, officers stopped a truck on Henry Parkes Way, Parkes. The driver – a 56-year-old man – was charged with drive/permit not comply with dimension requirements – severe. He was issued a court attendance notice to appear at Parkes Local Court on Thursday 20 November 2025.
