Drug and Firearms Squad detectives have charged a man for allegedly possessing firearms and parts to build prohibited weapons following a joint investigation with the Australian Border Force (ABF).
In January 2026, the State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Temarang to investigate the importation and manufacture of 3D printed firearms, firearm parts and other improvised firearms.
In November and December 2025, ABF officers intercepted three consignments originating from Asia destined for an address in Taree, containing firearm parts including unfinished firearm barrels. The items were seized and detectives from Drug and Firearms Squad commenced a joint investigation with the ABF.
Following extensive inquiries, about 10.50am yesterday (Tuesday 17 February 2026) strike force detectives - with assistance from ABF Investigators and the Raptor Squad - executed a search warrant at a property in Taree.
During the search, detectives allegedly seized four firearms, ammunition and various parts and accessories that police allege were to be used to create privately manufactured firearms.
About 4pm yesterday (Tuesday 17 February 2026) a 43-year-old man was arrested at Taree Police Station.
He was charged with four counts of possess unauthorised pistol, three counts of Intentionally import prohibited tier 2 goods without approval, two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, possess prohibited drug, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority and possess more than 3 unregistered firearms, 1 is prohibited/pistol.
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Local Court 1 today (Wednesday 18 February 2026).
