Police have charged a driver and seized $14,000 cash, prohibited drugs and a baton after a pursuit across Maitland yesterday.
About 10.45am (Tuesday 17 June 2025), police were patrolling East Maitland, when they attempted to stop a sedan travelling on Brunswick Street.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop officers attached to Port Stephen-Hunter Police District initiated a pursuit.
The pursuit continued until it reached the intersection of Chelmsford Drive and the New England Highway, where the sedan crashed into a utility and came to a stop.
The driver of the ute – a 63-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Maitland Hospital with minor injuries.
The alleged driver of the sedan – a 34-year-old man – and passenger were uninjured.
Police arrested the 34-year-old at the scene before taking him to Maitland Hospital for precautionary reasons.
During the arrest, police searched the sedan and seized $14,000 cash, a baton and a small amount of methamphetamine.
Following inquiries, the 34-year-old man was taken to Maitland Police Station today (Wednesday 18 June 2025), where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen (two counts), possess prohibited drugs and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.
The man was refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court today.
