$18M Library, Community Centre Opens in Yamba

Department of Home Affairs

Joint media release with the Hon Yasmin Catley MP

The Yamba Library and Community Centre opened its doors today to a modern and spacious educational and cultural facility.

The project received $11,107,882 million from the Australian and NSW government's Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, with an additional $6,865,348 million from Clarence Valley Council.

The new community hub, which aims to connect, support, educate and inspire the local community, has a library, a community centre, an art gallery, a dedicated youth space, a visitor information hub and a commercial kitchen.

Another addition to the hub is the first Changing Places adult change facility in the Clarence Valley, which was installed to ensure that everyone can use the facility, including people living with a disability.

The facility was built by locals for locals, with 15 local businesses contracted to work on the project, building a modern space for the community to use for many years to come.

During natural disasters, the facility will also be used as a community refuge to provide shelter for anyone that needs it.
