Penrith City Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on the Draft Our River Plan 2026-46, a long-term vision for the future of the Nepean River, which is now on public exhibition.
The Draft Our River Plan is a high-level strategic document that will guide planning, advocacy and collaboration with government and industry partners to support investment and unlock the Nepean River's full potential over the next 20 years.
Building on the success of the previous 'Our River' Nepean River Master Plan, this new plan looks at the entire Nepean River corridor within the Penrith Local Government Area.
It identifies opportunities across four precincts to create a more connected and accessible river corridor, enhance visitor experiences while protecting its natural landscapes and character for future generations.
The majority of proposed projects and ideas for the future will require commitments from others, including funding, to be achieved.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the plan sets out a visionary and aspirational future for the river that will require strong partnerships and investment to be realised over time.
"The Nepean River is one of Penrith's greatest assets - a place that's valued by residents and visitors for its natural beauty and the social connection it fosters," Cr Carney said.
"Over the past decade, more than $450 million in public investment and approximately $1 billion in private investment have helped transform the river corridor into a world-class recreational destination.
"The Draft Our River Plan builds on that success, with the majority of projects and actions in the plan currently unfunded and requiring support from public and private stakeholders to be realised.
"Community feedback at this stage will tell us whether the overall vision, objectives, principles and priorities are on the right track. A clear, shared vision will strengthen our advocacy efforts to help bring it to life."
The public exhibition runs until Sunday 20 September 2026.
