Tasmanian nurses and midwives are essential to delivering quality health care to the community.
Today, nurses and midwives across the public and private sectors will come together to celebrate and showcase innovation and research in their fields at the 2021 Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Symposium.
Now in its third year, the Symposium recognises the outstanding work and achievements of Tasmanian nurses and midwives from all aspects of the health sector.
Nurses and midwives, together with clinicians across the board, have provided leadership, commitment, and dedication to keep our communities safe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The Symposium will recognise these efforts, showcase achievements, and inspire Tasmanian nurses and midwives to explore the possibilities of their practice beyond 2021.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is continuing our major focus on recruiting and retaining health staff across Tasmania to ensure that our hospitals and health facilities are well-equipped to deliver vital health services to all Tasmanians. Since July 2020, we have employed an additional 840 FTE health staff to support new and existing health services across Tasmania, and we are continuing to recruit.
Keynote speakers at this year's Symposium include 2021 Australian of the year recipient, Grace Tame, and Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer for the Australian Government Department of Health Professor Alison McMillan PSM.
Following the Symposium, the outstanding achievements of Tasmania's nurses, midwives, and teams will be recognised and celebrated at the Tasmanian Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.
