2024 Candidate Info Sessions to Feature Elections Analyst Raue

Wingecarribee Shire Council is pleased to announce that Elections Analyst and Author, Ben Raue is a new inclusion to our list of experts for the upcoming series of Candidate Information Sessions for potential Councillors scheduled for 2024.

Ben is the Founder and Author of the popular website blog and podcast, 'The Tally Room.' He has a particular interest in elections, and has written election analysis for The Guardian, Crikey.com.au, and other national publications and radio programs including, ABC Radio National. Ben will lend his experience and expertise, particularly on The Tally Room - at the 8 May 2024 Candidate Session.

Council Elections are in September 2024, just six months away, and these sessions are targeted towards potential candidates who want to know more about what's required in filling the role of a Councillor and working in public office.

John Rayner PSM, a former General Manager, Administrator and experienced Local Government Leader, will lead a host of experts for the reminder of the series of Councillor candidate information sessions prior to the September Councillor elections.

Session 2: 8 May 2024

3:30pm – 6:30pm/Council Chambers

  • Welcome & Introduction – John Rayner
  • Conduct – Giselle Tocher – Principal Officer Corruption Prevention – ICAC
  • The ballot paper, grouping, preferences, proportional representation etc (including short history of past WSC elections) – Ben Raue, The Tally Room
  • Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM, City of Wollongong Lord Mayor
  • Roles of Councillors, Mayor and the General Manager and the separation of powers and interactions – John Rayner

Session 3: 12 June 2024
