The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2025 Tasmanian Gold Medal Award is Mr Richard (Dick) Watson AM FAICD.
The Tasmanian Gold Medal recognises excellence in governance and is awarded to an AICD Fellow for their outstanding directorship and significant contribution to corporate life and the wider community of Tasmania.
Mr Watson has had a distinguished career in senior leadership roles, with decades of experience in marketing, new business development, mergers and acquisitions, and as a company director.
Richard has held extensive roles as a senior executive, CEO, director and chairperson in both Australian and international companies, working across agribusiness, aquaculture, food and beverage, health Insurance, financial services, start-ups and more recently, in the aged care sector.
Amongst other companies these have included Hop Products Australia, Tassal, Bush Boake Allen, Glaxo Australia, MBF, Scootboots, and Care Forward. In the community sector he has been chair of the UTAS Foundation and President of the Narryna Heritage Museum.
Richard was awarded the Order of Australia in 2000 for services to aquaculture and business.
AICD Tasmania Division President Katrena Stephenson congratulated Mr Watson on receiving the Gold Medal Award in recognition of his exemplary career.
"Richard has shown a commitment to good governance and the directorial values of excellence and integrity across his career, which has encompassed broad executive and board roles.
"His support of Tasmania's business community through his active involvement in mentoring and stewardship is greatly appreciated."
The Gold Medal Award will be presented by the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency The Honourable Barbara Baker AC, at a luncheon in Hobart on Wednesday 17 September.
