Leeton Shire Council approved three applications for funding assistance totalling $10,300 as part of the 2025/26 Local Heritage Places Grants Scheme at its October Ordinary Council meeting.

Under this annual Grants Program, funding is available for 'listed' heritage items in the Leeton Local Environmental Plan 2014 or for buildings supported by Council's heritage advisor as being of heritage significance.

The Local Heritage Places Grants for 2025/26 were advertised and open for applications from July to late August 2025.

Applications for funding assistance were received and considered by Council's Heritage Advisor Noel Thomson in conjunction with the Leeton Shire Council Heritage Committee.

The three applications approved by Council were:

  • Erection of safety fence around chimney at Yanco Powerhouse Museum ($1,300);
  • External timber repair works at gable end and repainting of the north façade to the historic "Hydro Hotel" ($5,000);
  • Replacement of flooring at the basement of the Leeton Museum and Art Gallery (LMAG) to help the Leeton Family & Local History Society preserve Leeton's historic documents by addressing pest/vermin infestation threat ($4,000).

Chairman of the Leeton Shire Heritage Committee, Deputy Mayor Cr Michael Kidd, congratulated the recipients of this year's Heritage Grants on their successful applications.

"We are proud to support projects that protect and celebrate Leeton's unique heritage and Art Deco character. From preserving the historic Hydro Hotel to safeguarding the Yanco Powerhouse Museum, we extend our gratitude to the proactive owners who applied for this year's heritage program," he said.
