The Hills Shire Council invites residents to nominate an individual or community group for a 2027 Australia Day Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the local community.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said the awards are a special opportunity to shine a light on the people and groups who have dedicated themselves to the Hills' community.
"There are so many inspiring stories of Hills residents and community groups who go above and beyond to help others, strengthen local connections, and make a real difference in our Shire," Mayor Byrne said.
"The Australia Day Awards give us the chance to formally recognise people whose efforts may otherwise go unseen.
"I encourage residents to take a moment to nominate someone they know who deserves to be celebrated for their service to The Hills' community."
The 2026 Australia Day Award categories include:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year - Nominees must be aged 24 years or under as of Wednesday 20 January 2027
- Environmental Citizen of the Year
- Sporting Citizen of the Year
- Community Group of the Year
Nominees for the award categories must be Australian citizens or a permanent resident, reside in the Hills Shire LGA and have contributed to the community in a positive way over the past year.
Finalists will be announced in the lead up to Australia Day 2027.

Nominations will close at 12pm on Monday 9 November 2026.
