Queensland Police Service Commissioner Steve Gollschewski took his final steps out of police headquarters today, marking the end of 46 years of service.
Forming a guard of honour, friends, family and colleagues gathered to celebrate the retirement of an extraordinary leader. He was honoured for his remarkable dedication and outstanding contributions to policing and community safety throughout an exceptional career spanning 1980 to 2026.
Commissioner Gollschewski reflected on his career and the future of the organisation.
"Looking back on my career, there are so many incredible moments, but it is the people who I have had the privilege to work with that stands out the most," Commissioner Gollschewski said.
"The time has come for me to hand over the reins and concentrate on my health and family."
The QPS enters its next era of leadership with optimism and a bright future ahead. Earlier in the week, Commissioner Gollschewski announced Brett Pointing APM as the incoming Acting Commissioner from Saturday 21 February.
"I could not think of anyone better to step into the role than Brett Pointing. He has one of the best policing minds in Australia," Commissioner Gollschewski said.
"He is good for the QPS and great for Queensland.
"The QPS has an exceptional Acting Commissioner, supported by strong leaders and dedicated people. I am confident that I am leaving the QPS in good hands."
Commissioner Gollschewski leaves an enduring legacy of strategic leadership, organisational reform, and operational command excellence that will shape the organisation and support the community for years to come.
With honour he served.
